Light bends through a glass
On the window sill, dancing over parted lips
Eyelids flutter,
Teetering between dreams
Splinters of sun glisten off her hair
To reflect and stretch back towards the
Open window. Her mouth is
Painted a deep autumn hue that
I have tasted before.
We are alone.
It’s quiet enough to hear her
Shallow, silky breathing
I watch the rise and fall
Of her chest, clad in my white V-neck.
A breeze grazes the tiny hairs on her neck
Her drowsy limbs flail blindly for warmth.
Without waking her,
A smile moves from the corners of her
Lips when I cover her.
This tender silence keeps me from leaving
When I know I should.
