A man in a long black overcoat, swinging a briefcase, squinted down the street against the winter sun. He spied a taxi and waved his arm, stepping down off the curb.

The yellow taxi didn’t stop or even slow. It flew past as he hurled insults, quickly jumping back.

Ed saw the man waving but he didn’t stop. Instead, he pushed hard on the gas pedal, demanding speed from the engine. He should stop but he wouldn’t he couldn’t not right now

Who does she think she is thinks she’s a goddess or something she can’t get away with this she’ll pay for this you bet she will

He pressed on the brakes just enough to turn the corner. His tires squealed, the steering wheel wrenched in his hands, but he wouldn’t slow any more. He sucked intensely on his cigarette. Now he was on a wider street, no one would try to hail him and stop him no one could stop him now

No one can stop me now she’ll get what she asked for boy she’ll get it now the little queen that she thinks she is she won’t be expecting this but she asked for it all right she really did and now she’ll get what’s coming to her

Ed chuckled and looked down at the gun on the seat beside him. It lay quietly, gleaming blackly, and he would be at her apartment in ten minutes. She would be home from work now, home from her petty job. Ahead the light turned red but Ed didn’t move his foot from the gas. A gray car swerved to miss him and a van blared its horn, veering. He glanced in the rearview mirror and grinned to see two cars bash into each other. Total destruction that’s what was coming to her

She’ll be destroyed all gone never bother me again who does she think she is leaving me like that she can’t just make up her own mind and up and leave I own her she’s mine and now she’s getting what she asked for how dare she she almost destroyed me now I’ll destroy her she’ll be dead I’ll kill her she won’t live the night because I’ll kill her today I’ll kill her I’ll Kill her I’m on my way to kill her five more minutes now she’ll be dead

Ed bit down on his cigarette in fury. He tried to pull in smoke but found the cigarette had gone out. Ed snatched it out of his mouth and flicked it out the window, reaching for another one. Sticking it between his lips he tried to light it, steering with his elbows. The stupid thing wouldn’t light it wouldn’t catch

Stupid woman now she’s gonna get it I’m going to kill her now she’ll be dead forever she asked for it she deserves it now she’ll be dead I’ll kill her I’ll kill her I’ll kill her I’ll kill her

The cigarette lit and Ed inhaled deeply. He tossed the lighter down beside the gun, smiling cunningly. The car squealed around a corner to the left. A gust of wind blew in through the half-open window, catching a spark off his cigarette, flicking it against his hand.

Ed let go of the steering wheel, swearing. His cigarette fell from his lips, down to his lap. His head jerked down, he swatted at the glowing red tip. The car swerved to the sidewalk.

The screech of metal scraping against concrete blotted out Ed’s screaming and swearing. After a moment the car came to a rest, tires spinning against the air. Nothing inside the car moved.

I’ll kill her I’ll kill her I’ll kill her I’ll kill her I’ll…
